Heart Felt DisciplineThe major concern of most teachers in education today is how to improve student discipline. Teacher burnout is at an all time high. Teachers are trained to deliver information to students who sit still and listen and ten are put in front of a classroom where students do not sit still and listen. Demands of controlling the classroom environment have created an excessive drain on the emotional strength of our classroom teachers. If schools are to thrive, efforts must be initiated to solve the discipline problem. The major concern is where to begin? Heartfelt Discipline believes that we must begin with the child’s heart. We need to touch more than their mind. We must learn how to touch their heart. Heartfelt Discipline comes from the belief that “at the heart of every problem is a problem of the heart.”
Students don’t care about how much we know until they know how much we care. When this is evident in the classroom, not only will no child be left behind, but no child’s heart will be left behind.
The “heart” is the core of a child’s potential. The “heart” is where a child feels his deepest e4motions in life. Unfortunately, the “heart” of the child is overlooked in educational circles because the “heart” is not quantitatively measured.
