No Heart Left Behind® was founded by Abby Shields upon her belief that at the heart of every problem is a problem of the heart. Abby is not referring to the physical heart, but rather the inner heart. We can’t see this heart, nor weigh it, nor measure it. The heart that Abby refers to is the very center of our inner being - our very life. Statements such as, “I know in my heart,” and “I have a willing heart” remind us that this heart is truly a vital, living part of every individual. It is this heart that holds the nucleus of our potential and is the seat of our deepest emotions. It is from this heart that we humans do our deepest thinking.
Unfortunately, when this heart becomes wounded through trials, destructive relationships, or the unproductive weariness of parents or teachers, it may take years to notice that this heart has died. This kind of heart trouble may remain undetected until teenage years or even adulthood when the effects of a wounded heart surface through self-destructive behaviors, crippling addictions, depression and anger. Abby’s desire is for individuals to know it is the word of God and the love of Christ that is the only thing that performs heart surgery to heal their deepest wounds. It is from this desire that the concept of No Heart Left Behind® was formed to help children, parents, educators and leaders develop their full potential . . . socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
